Reducing dropout and improving outcomes from PTSD therapy: When to switch therapies or stay the course (STEER)

This study utilizes an algorithm to determine who is at risk of dropping out of an effective PTSD treatment, called Cognitive Processing Therapy. Shared decision making occurs with therapist and client once identified at risk. The “decision” could include continuing with treatment with a new understanding, addressing the patient’s challenges (e.g., resolving practical barriers), and/or switching to a different PTSD treatment.
